Medicaid Advocacy and Education Toolkit

BACKGROUND:

Medicaid provides individuals with disabilities with access to critical supports and services. In addition, Medicaid is an economic driver for our communities and represents a significant funding source for Easterseals to deliver quality home and community-based services.

OPPORTUNITY:

Members of Congress will be active in their home states and districts between now and Election Day through 8 weeks of congressional recess periods. This is an opportunity to educate your Congressional Delegation about the impact of Medicaid on your clients, affiliate, and community.

WHY NOW:
Medicaid cuts jeopardize Easterseals’ ability to provide essential services to people with disabilities. A Medicaid funding cut and cap proposal was recently included in the President’s fiscal year 2019 budget request (Feb. 2018). Threats to Medicaid funding aren’t going away! Now is the time to educate Members of Congress about the importance of Medicaid to our clients, affiliate, and communities. The Medicaid Advocacy and Education Toolkit will assist you in your education and outreach efforts!

Easterseals partners locally with our state’s Medicaid agency to provide home and community-based services to eligible individuals with disabilities. Past Medicaid cuts have resulted in programs closing and services ending across the country. Help protect health services: Medicaid impacts millions of people with disabilities and many Medicaid programs have already shut down due to cuts. People with disabilities would struggle to access services if Medicaid is further cut. http://bit.ly/2Ha0pxn

This is a wonderful testament what one can do when they want to! Love everything about your advocacy kit! I found it easy, comprehensive, helpful and well thought out. My name is Rick Fleetwood and I am the CEO of Snell Prosthetic and Orthotic. I also serve as the National PAC Chair for the American Orthotic Prosthetic Association. Also, I proudly serve on the local BOD for Easterseals Arkansas and just as proudly for the National BOD for Easterseals. Congrats on a great job. I have one question, can this also be used for the alert in case of immediate need to contact your elected representative. In other words, a national alert in that it was imperative for all affiliates to contact their representative in a state or national setting?
You have so much good info hear and hope it is being used by many. Is their a way that National has a list on who all is or is not. If not, begin a campaign to educated that we all be on the same page? I believe in the near future there will be things/issues that it will be very important for us to show our concern and educate the full ramifications that will come from such actions. Thanks for saring!!
